Our goal is to help our clients realize their dreams and visions. We want our customers to realize they will be part of creating a project that is truly unique to them, is a reflection of who they are and will stand up to the test of time and can be passed on to future generations.
We design and build cabinetry, furniture and fireplace mantles. We are located near Newport, WA about 35 miles north of Spokane, WA. Don Thomson started Diamond Lake Custom Woodworks, LLC after relocating from Ohio in the summer of 2007. In Ohio, he had a cabinet and furniture shop for 7 years. Prior to that he built projects for family and friends for over 30 years in between assignments while in the US Coast Guard. He is now retired from the Coast Guard. The shop staff is a husband and wife team (Don and Nancy Thomson ) focused on combining the efficiency of modern technology and the craftsmanship of traditional woodworking techniques to reach the objective of:
Building Tomorrows Heirlooms Today
Our focus is to design and build functional furniture with personality and character and meets your requirements. We approach a project with the assumption that it is going to be used on a regular basis (functionality), not sit in a corner taking up space. Strong, time tested craftsmanship goes into the construction. The use of natural colors of woods to add contrast, interest and character is an important part of each piece. To add additional interest, inlays of contrasting woods are added where appropriate. The final step is to use beautiful and durable finishes to really bring out the natural beauty that is in every piece of wood nature provides us.
We are a small two-person shop. We work on just 1 to 3 projects at a time. We will work very hard to deliver your project within your time constraints but want to assure you that we won’t cut corners or quality . Yes, modern machinery and technology is used for efficiency (less time – lower cost). But, when it comes time for assembly, hand tools are used for the very fine work needed to get tight fitting joints.
- Don began woodworking around the age of 5 under the watchful eye of his Father. His passion for woodworking grows every day. Unfortunately his woodworking pursuits were interrupted for 23 years while he served in the US Coast Guard around the world. Don is a volunteer firefighter and EMT. He loves to hunt, camp, explore, hike, 4-wheel and build early period static sailing model ships.
Nancy has been scrolling for about 9 years. She really enjoys what she does. I invited her to come into the shop and try it out 9 years ago and she never left the shop. She has many outside interests from the woodworking business. She is a math tutor for the local community and participates regularly in a community singing group putting on musical productions for the community.
